Mike Zimmerman passed away August 3, 1990 in a traffic accident after riding in a rodeo in Oregon.
Doug Thomas (SMS80), younger brother of Jeff (SMS79), was with Mike, and also killed.
We held a joint service with a lot of Raiders as pall bearers.
The two were buried next to my parents at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 112th and Metcalf, O.P. KS.
They were my best friends through all grades, and my roomies at Kansas University, before Z headed to Texas A&M, and Doug went to Emporia.
Z was a Drilling Engineer off-shore, and the toughest man I have met, before or since. (On a lighter note......If I had to tell one more gal, most I did not know, from around the country, that 'yes, you were his favorite,' one more time at the wake...........sheesh the girls loved Z........)
Doug had just been married and was a new father to lovely Haley Rae......now at KU.
Miss 'em like it happened yesterday, but boy did we have some times!
